How Mindfulness has helped me to live life fully, happily and face my fear.

This is a video of a presentation I did at work! The fact I've written that sentence shows how much Mindfulness has helped me face my fear.

I've always had an anxiety about public speaking, particularly the exact scenario in this video which is a slot at a monthly meeting we have at work. I've spent over 12 years avoiding doing this! As part of Mental Health Awareness week in May, the theme of which was Mindfulness, I was asked to share my journey with colleagues. I agreed and used the experience to observe and acccept how nervousness and anxiety feel in my body, instead of running from them. I also agreed to it being video'd. As month 4 of the Happiness Club is Appreciation (aka Mindfulness in my opinion), I thought I'd share this video. The very beginning is just cut off but I'm describing some management training my work had arranged in 2013, which involved a workshop on Mindfulness and was my first step on a wonderful journey. It's quite long so be warned :)

I am a Chartered Accountant for a Housing Association, who is a mum to 2 small children. I discovered Mindfulness in 2013 and this was a turning point for me to really be committed and present wherever I am. Life isn't as worrying as I used to think when I used to listen to all my 'what if' thoughts and I now feel braver and more confident. I set up a Happiness Club in 2015 in conjunction with Psychologies magazine and as with Mindfulness am already loving the difference it's making to my life and those around me.
