This recent August Bank Holiday, our little family packed a bag each and set off across the Yorkshire Dales to stay for two nights in a cosy lodge in Burniston (5 miles from Scarborough). My husband and I are both self employed and I find it hard to stick to office hours. I was determined to have some time off work, to have a digital detox and just spend time with my family. I got my wish. There was no phone signal or wifi where we were staying, so the decision to have a sneak peak at my emails was taken out of my hands.

I packed minimum make up, some dry shampoo, one change of clothes, a swimming costume, books, magazines and plenty of wine. We stayed at Applegrove Country Park in Burniston in a beautiful two bedroom lodge with a hot tub. It looked out onto open fields to the front and to wonderful dense woodland to the left. Every morning I would spend some time meditating in the fresh air ready for day ahead. We ate together as a family, played board games and lazed in the hot tub on an evening. Daytimes were spent visiting Scarborough, feeding squirrels and wildlife in Peasholm Park with it's ancient oriental theme and recently new lakeside area (a favourite of ours). My parents took me to this park when I was a little girl and it brings back so many memories, it is well worth a visit. We returned again to Alpamare Waterpark with it's outdoor heated pools, enjoyed fish and chips, rock pooling at Robin Hood's Bay and watching the fishing boats on the sea. If ever there was a time to be in the present and re-connect it was this weekend. Mindfulness in Yorkshire - what a wonderful way to live.
