For the past 9 years or so I choose a phrase or a mantra at the beginning of a new year in a new journal. However, I was struggling to come up with anything so I put my new journal away on the nightstand and grabbed my copy of Psychologies. Ali Roff’s “Plaster cast for the mind” in the January issue deeply resonated,( see page 96-97). I kept thinking about the Rumi quote she also shared,“The wound is the place where the light enters you”.
As an avid fan of spoken words and poetry I kept repeating the above quote. Perhaps my detachment from toxicity is another form of reapplying another dressing on these old wounds. The word healing came to mind and to be honest I asked myself healing from what? Puzzled by that question I stared into the wall for what felt like 20 minutes and then some detailed memories of pain, hurt, and anger began to creep up on me. It is amazing how much trauma a person can suppress. Frustrations, depression and anxiety. Betrayal, loss of friends and family (living and dead) including personal expectations turned into disappointments. I accepted that HEALING it is in every way possible. Spiritually, emotionally and physically. The best thing I can do for my current self and future self is to heal as eloquently spoken by Natalie Patterson in the below video. Please click to listen :)
