It was my own experience of being in therapy that lead to my decision to spend five years retraining as a psychotherapist. While at times it could be challenging, for me going to therapy was life changing and what I discovered about myself, continues to guide my decision making and help me through life's daily ups and downs. I have many year's experience and have spent time working within the NHS, as well as with the charity sector and in private practice. My training was integrative although I mainly work psychodynamically, so I am interested in looking at how are earliest relationships and experiences can affect us in later life and how it can be very liberating and positive to gain insight into these patterns, as a way of changing what is no longer useful to us in our lives. I also believe that talking with someone that is professionally trained to listen, non judgemental and alongside you on your journey can lead to a life of enhanced possibilities and hopefulness. I work both long term and short term and have expertise in a range of issues including: anxiety and depression, infertility and parenting, loss, abandonment and betrayal, sexual issues, lack of self esteem and major life changes and stages. I am also committed to 'demystifying' psychotherapy, as believe that attending to our mental health is as important as looking after our physical wellbeing. While I have undergone two rigorous trainings, I also believe, that as C J Jung said, honesty, humility and at times humour, on the part of the therapist, are as important as academic credentials. With this in mind I continue to learn about myself and the work of therapy from all of my clients.
