I believe that we are all influenced by the relationships we have had in the past, as well as by those we have in the present. The development, and the loss, of relationships affects how we are able to cope with stress and difficulties. I work by listening to the issues you bring, sometimes asking questions, sometimes making suggestions. Because these are your sessions you may ignore me, disagree with me or, hopefully, sometimes find my thoughts helpful. I have a Masters in Clinical Science in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, from the University of Kent, and an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling from Birkbeck College, University of London. I have worked for the past fourteen years with children, young people and adults within schools, charities, universities and the NHS. As well as being in private practice I currently work as a senior lecturer and course leader for a post graduate training in psychodynamic counselling at the University of Brighton. Prior to this I was a psychological therapist with the Firefighters Charity. I spent the previous five years as director of the Waymark Counselling Service, in Canterbury, and was a senior lecturer in health at Canterbury Christchurch University. I have previously been employed as a counsellor by several organisations, including Barnardo's, Family Service Units and Thanet Counselling Services. I am a registered psychotherapist with UKCP, a registered counsellor and psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am a member of the Canterbury Consortium of Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychotherapists (CCOPPP) and work within those organisations’ ethical guidelines.
