Everyone finds life difficult from time to time. Let’s face it we all have our ups and downs and most of the time our normal support systems can help us through. But when this doesn’t work we need someone else to help us, someone who is unbiased, non-judgmental and confidential. I believe that we all have the potential for growth and we should be able to thrive. But sometimes our environments and situations can stop us in our tracks. Things like work issues, grief, children or trauma impacts and changes us. We can get stuck in old, familiar but destructive routines, repeat harmful patterns but we are unable to identify why. The room for growth and development is most important in children and young people. I work with children in a creative and cooperative way to identify and deal with issues they may have. I work with you at your pace, in a way that is ok for you, to explore issues, fears or patterns that are affecting you. As a psycho-therapeutic counsellor, I will help you look at your history, the possible cycles you have in behaviour, the relationships that have impacted you and what they are doing to your life right now. Working with you relationally means that I will share how you affect me; this often plays out the same way as your relationships outside counselling. Giving us the opportunity to explore these and change them. The relationship between you and I is often where the greatest changes take place. Working like this leads us to re-evaluate issues and what options there are for change. I believe there are always choices and options out there. But sometimes we need someone to helps us find them. This doesn’t mean I will tell you what to do, together we can explore options and the impact they may have. Alongside this I use CBT and ACT techniques to help you develop coping strategies while we look deeper into the causes of your issues. Giving you a way to manage outside of the therapy room. All serious stuff? No, a sense of humour in therapy is a regular occurrence, so we will have lighter moments.
