Live life and love life - Coming up – the month of positivity
We’re all looking forward to our month of positivity. Here are a few thoughts on how we’ll commit to it!
My happiness club will be trying different things such as not joining in with negative chat, being aware of our language (“Xxx makes me so angry” could be “I’m feeling angry”) and we’re going to try to be more aware of our emotions.
Our emotions might not necessarily be positive but we want to recognise if the emotion we feel is valid. We’ll try to recognise if we’re ‘story telling’ and catastrophising when we feel frustrated or angry and if we are, then to take a breath and reflect, before then responding positively. If we do feel a ‘negative’ emotion such as anger or sadness etc, and we have every right to, then we will experience it. Once the situation has passed we will try to then move on and become committed to this next moment of our lives and all the emotions that might bring.
One member put a lovely spin on the month of emotions. She said if you live life and love life, positivity will flow naturally. We talked about how if you commit to your life and make an effort to be a part of your own life, taking control of it, then you’re more likely to be happy about the choices you make and the life that you lead.
We all have different ways in which we experience positivity now, from the joy of getting lost with photography in the woods whilst walking the dog, to contentment in our home and taking walks in the local hills, to calmness that we experience when we take things slower and to excitement that we feel when we learn something new.
We could help create positivity in others by thinking back to our months of giving and relating; smiling more, phoning family, listening when others speak and saying hello to people we pass.
I write gratitude’s every day. Often this is a list of 10 things at the end of the day which I’m thankful for. During this month I’m going to write 3 things but explain them fully; why I’m thankful for them, why they happened and how I can make them happen more in the future.
Someone else is going to do something every day towards an art and poetry exhibition she’d like to do with a friend, knowing this will feel good and bring positivity into her life.
I'm really looking forward to the month and will let you know next month how we all get on.
