The knee is the largest joint in the body and one of the most complicated. It needs to be strong enough to support our weight but flexible enough to allow bending and twisting movements. Symptoms of osteoarthritis include pain, stiffness, a grating or grinding sensation when you move the joint and swellings.

Here, we have a new systematic review that aimed to identify effective mind-body exercise programs and provide clinicians and patients with updated, high-quality recommendations concerning non-traditional land-based exercises for knee osteoarthritis.

The four high-quality studies identified demonstrated that various mind-body exercise programs are promising for improving the management of knee osteoarthritis. Hatha Yoga demonstrated significant improvement for pain relief and physical function. Tai Chi Qigong demonstrated significant improvement for quality of life, pain relief and physical function. And sun style Tai Chi gave significant improvement for pain relief and physical function.
