Are there certain types of cheaters?
Hi Lesley, This is a really interesting question. I don't think there is a particular type of person as such, but rather a combination of personality, personal values and circumstance that give rise to whether someone cheats or not. People with personality traits such as high conscientiousness and prone-to-worry are less likely to act out than people low in these traits. If someone rates honesty and integrity highly in their value system, they would be less likely to cheat, than if their value system was more hedonistic in nature, and finally, circumstance may foster an environment that may 'entice' someone to cheat, for example working along side someone with whom there is an irrational electric sexual charge (courtesy of pheromones). Another circumstance could be, if you are in a sex-less marriage, it may be more difficult to say no thanks should an opportunity arise.
If you were to typify people, you would need to plot out these dimensions which can be somewhat subjective. I suppose you could weed out those 'most likely to cheat' by looking at past history and knowing a little about their personality and value system.
