Just stand there shining...

This blog reflects on the power of just being you, and the permission you give to others to shine when you do that.

“Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island for boats to save; they just stand there shining.” Anne Lamott
This quote really made me smile. It reminds me of Marianne Williamson’s words from A Return to Love when she says “as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Sometimes it can be hard to simply shine your light, without apology, caveat or condition. To say, this is me, here I am, as I am. And yet, to do so is freeing, it expands our presence and our impact, and when we do with heart, it is actually effortless. There is a connectedness and an energy that comes from embracing yourself in your entirety, and allowing yourself to radiate. What you put out will be reflected back, bringing with it the most wonderful gifts from the most unexpected places and situations.
The Huna people of Hawaii have a spiritual practice called Ho’o Pono Pono which works with this energy. It invites the person practising it to be full of universal light, and then to overflow this light to others, cleansing the energetic connection you share. It speaks of recognising our magnificence, not in an arrogant way, but in a grounded, respectful way that acknowledges the sheer beauty of being human and being natural. It’s quite an experience.
Wishing you a weekend of standing tall, of taking your space, of letting yourself shine. You are magnificent, just as you are.
