Spend a penny, lose a pound?
Our challenge in Week 27 of The Great Wake-Up was to do an exercise of our choice every time we went to the bathroom.
I'm not thrilled with my achievements this week. I'm not going to trot out the busy excuses (although I was) because the truth is I did some back-sliding...
In principle, I really like this challenge and, in fact, it's something I've done for years (that silly woman going up and down the office stairs for no apparent reason was me...) Plus, I genuinely want to improve my fitness, and shed some middle-aged excess! So, there were stair reps on some occasions, a few yoga poses on others and, memorably, tricep dips in my hairdresser's waiting area :-) But I didn't manage it every time I had a penny to spend...
Saturday I was out running errands most of the day, so I guess the running around sort of counts - I was certainly moving after my loo breaks - and Sunday was a domestic day, with chores and gardening. Monday and Tuesday were the hardest; I was with clients all day both days in meetings. To add insult to injury, there were the six hours of commuting one day and four the next, which kind interferes with loo breaks, let alone exercise.
I recognise this pattern in myself - I have a strong tendency to focus on work to the exclusion of anything else when I have a project on. Wake Up is helping with the constant nudges, but I have a long way to go in breaking the habit of a lifetime and learning to give my body what it needs as well as my mind.
So today I'm starting afresh; I've given myself a slow start after the busy weekend / start to the week, and I will move forward with the intent to do an exercise of my choice after a bathroom break - and forgive myself if it's not every time.
