This week's assignment was all about focusing on the big things of each day - or rather, the One Big Thing...

The assignment was to try and frame the day with the most important task that I had to complete - something that proved to be quite useful given that the week consisted of several big projects or meetings coming to a head.

Giving myself five minutes at the start of the day at my desk, just to organise myself both physically and mentally for the day ahead and what my main priority or objective is. I even extended this into the weekend by looking at what I wanted to get done or achieve by Sunday evening. The approach worked - admittedly, there are days, especially on the weekend, when I don't have anything I particularly want to do, or even if I do, making them my raison d'etre for the weekend takes away their joy. As a practise for goal-setting and for working throughout the week, however, this proved to be pretty good.

I've got into the habit at work of always arriving early, so fitting this into my pre-work time was a doddle, and one that I'm strongly inclined towards continuing with. Five minutes to make me the most organised, forward-thinking version of myself that I can be seems no worry at all...
