One Big Thing

Week 23 of the Wake up Challenge- each day I will wake up and decide what is the one thing that I want to achieve today

Another manic week but also one interspersed with pockets of joy like unexpected coffees and catch ups with old friends, wall to wall sunshine so I think I am living ‘abroad’, and a cheeky bank holiday bbq where by helping him carve his name in a log I made a new friend with an 8 year old and later some of us decided to do some tree climbing In a nearby field which resulted in a broken branch and a bruised coccyx… ( not me but I blame the blog.)

I’ve been up at four thirty most days in order to get everything done that I needed to and its light and the birds are tweeting and well, I just couldn’t sleep. So there wasn’t so much one important thing to do as several. However this week’s wake up challenge really helped me focus. Each day I would make a list of everything that needed to be done that day but I circled the ONE BIG THING and as long as that was ticked by the end of the day I felt I had achieved something.

Day one- was take Ted for a walk by the lake and get an ice cream

Day two- visit my lovely Mam

Day three-Apply for some funding for Uni.

Day four-meet an old friend for dinner despite feeling so tired I just lie down on the floor and sleep

This week’s challenge made me realise its people who are important, yes we all have to do money related stuff but it’s your people who are important –it’s the interactions we have. I know I have been guilty in the past of being grumpy or shall we say lacking in patience when I am particularly busy and someone just once to pass the time of day or talk garbage. For example this week when my neighbour shouts “ cooee ! “ and I'm in the middle of unloading my car and wanting to scream , I have turned around with a smile firmly planted on my face and before long just by interacting in a positive way I have a smile on the inside too and there is calm where there once was chaos. So bring on the garbage I say.

As the song said ‘the sun always shines on tv’, but may the sun always shine on you lovely people this week for real and take some time out for your important people (even if you decide your important one big thing is yourself.) As for me my One Big Thing this week is to get some sleep :)

Nos da x.

I'm a single parent of ONE lovely lanky teenager.. I live in deepest rural Wales . My 'proper' job is in marketing and events but I am also a trained reflexologist, masseur and reiki giver (go figure!) I also look after my Mum who is in her late 80's, my dog Ted, my cat Black and my hens and dream is to have a small holding and offer people holidays in my teepee and maybe the odd therapy as you can see I am a mass of contradictions.... I like to walk, do yoga, eat salad and visit new places but I also like to drive fast, Feast ice lollies, vodka on Friday's with friends(, which leads to dancing in my kitchen) my coffee , and staying up late... I can be outgoing but also extremely shy so like the rest of you I am still trying to figure it out one day at a time...

You are so right about the importance of connecting when life is just a whirlwind. I am jealous of your weather though. Been bloody freezing in Yorkshire!

Nice blog Fi (as usual) and poignant for me too but I will say when A-Ha sung, "The sun always shines on TV", I always thought all they needed to do was re-position the TV or draw the curtains. Take it easy.

You're so right, Fi! Days always seem to go better when you make space for positive interactions (so why is it so easy to forget that????)
