And onto a new week and a new challenge - to find beauty in the modern world wherever you go.

I have to be honest right off the bat: I loved this challenge and loved it when it was announced to be the next week's mission for all us Wake Up! bloggers. I like to think of myself as someone who appreciates beauty in all its forms, and so to challenge myself to do it actively, seeking it out, was a nice challenge.

It immediately kicked off with some beautiful sunrises and sunsets, recorded on my phone for posterity, and then began manifesting in different ways. Going out for dinner with friends and seeing how beautiful the restaurant and the food and the laughter of my friends looked. The way sunlight gleamed off a bus window just when the right uplifting song kicked in on my mp3 player. It might not have been a strict acceptance of the challenge as purely 'looking', but it leant to an overall 'sensual' experience in its purest sense.

We spend so much of our daily lives in autopilot mode - we miss by so many opportunities for beautiful things and sights and sounds, that it's a wonder we notice anything at all. Life isn't always going to be wonderful - it can be hard and painful and tough, and I'm sure everyone can agree that it can happen like that. The point is, therefore, not to ignore the pain and the darkness, but to accept it and choose to see the beauty in the world because of all its cruelties and ugliness.

I loved taking part in this week's challenge - not only because it reawakened some childlike awe in my daily life, but because it gave me the chance to realise that choosing to see the good in the world is exactly that: a choice. Now then, onto the next week...

Nice post Chris. There is beauty everywhere and we don't even have to search for it - it's right in front of us at all times. It's great to read a blog that awoken something in you that is always there. Nice one. PS Have you finished knitting your scarf - I would love to see a picture of it. All the best Mark.

Brilliant. Acceptance and yes we always have a choice how we react to things. Thank you for the insight, big love Chris x
