This week's assignment was one that thrilled me immensely, even if it meant sacrificing some sleep to do it: waking up an hour earlier to do something that brings you joy.
The reason for my happiness? Recently, I've taken up knitting.
(Backstory: my best friend got me a knitting kit for my 25th birthday in January after I mentioned to het that I'd love to learn how to knit a scarf. I took to it quickly. It's a joy).
Anyway, this week I've been making a half-hour (I wake up at 7am anyway so getting up at 6am is not an option) to sit and knit while watching the news or listening to music or catching up on something like Parks & Recreation. It's framed my day and given me more time to get myself ready for the day ahead with a peaceful beginning.
It's not something, however, I can see myself doing in the future - simply, i need my sleep more. However, the idea of introducing the day with something pleasant and gently stimulating sounds agreeable, and if anything, it's ensured that my weekends start with a bacon sandwich and a few rows of the next scarf I want to attempt to knit. Not a bad compromise in my opinion...
