The #1 Regret Of The Dying
If you've ever experienced losing someone you'll know that it wakes you up to the fragility of life, making you even more grateful for the days that you're alive. Death brings sadness and also many great lessons, in this blog I share the number 1 regret of the dying...
This week and the whole year in fact has been a wonderful celebration of life. My friends are having babies and life has just been going really well. I know though for as much as one person is celebrating life there is another person grieving death. If you are going through a death at the moment I hope this blog brings some light relief for you.
Death is un avoidable, we all experience it at some time or another and some more than others. Without death we can not have life and vice versa. What I have learned through the experience of losing a family member and severe illnesses with friends, is that death or the prospect of it always makes me think about my own life and how I want to make sure I live it. I know for others it's the same, how about you?
I feel very content at the moment and that if nothing changed I would have no regrets which has reminded me of a blog the Huffington Post posted last year, so I decided to share it with you.
HUFFINGTON POST BLOG: The Top 5 Regrets Of The Dying
The exerts are taken from a book by the same title, written by a palliative nurse. The most common regret she heard from the dying was that they wish they'd had the courage to live a life true to themselves, not the life others expected of them.
Having spent hundreds of hours helping individuals live lives that are true to themselves, I know that this is something many people find difficult. If it's not trying to please our parents, partners or social circle then its fear of failure that keeps us off our true path.
I decided to speak to a few friends to find out what they thought so I asked them;
"Imagine you're 85 and you're reflecting back on life, what advice would you give to yourself now?"
And here are a few of their answers
"Enjoy life, don't work too hard or get stressed",
"Love yourself and don't worry about what others think",
"Do what you really want to do and don't hold yourself back".
Pretty good advice I think. Maybe you can ask yourself the same questions?
Deep down I don't believe in regret because I have a stronger belief that everything happens for a reason and that every situation is an opportunity for growth,.
If you find you regret a lot, try that belief on for size.
If you did believe that every situation was an opportunity for growth how would you feel differently?
