The 40 plusser body -does my bum look big in this?
Welcome to my blog, I am not invisible or dead, I am a 40 plusser. This blog is a 40+ woman’s take on modern day lifestyle, championing the fact that at this 40+ age we are more alive than ever. If you’ve not found my new Facebook Group yet of the same name I’d love you to join here
This month it’s Body Talk. Last week’s blog was all about 'The Boobs', thanks for all your comments and emails, I loved reading your Boob stories. One point that came across is how often we neglect parts of our body until something goes wrong. Ever broken a finger and suddenly become fully aware of how important that finger was? Once hurt, all co-ordination and ability to pick anything up, wash hair, get dressed or type, let alone text, goes out the window. Seriously!? One finger. So imagine how debilitating it is when other places start to creak and ache or become diseased.
Our poor bodies, how we do them a disservice. Instead of marvelling the fact that just to keep us alive takes a scientific miracle, we tend to berate, judge, poke and resent our bodies from not being tall enough, lean enough, thinner, slimmer, bigger, rounder, curvier, shorter, less hairy, more hairy or a different colour.
I must say mine does like a bit of a massage now and again, loves fresh products, sings when it feels the sun and works at its best when I’ve had at least 7 hours of sleep a night - how about you? If our body had to pay a tax, like our cars, would we care for them better? If we had to pass a form of MoT, lets call it The BoF (Body of Fitness), a compulsory test of our bodies over a certain age to deem them Life Worthy, would we be healthier? I am hearing my 40 plussers start to become very aware of unexplained aches and pains. Thank goodness for supplements, holistic treatments, medical intervention and self-care.
Taking care of YOU is the best thing YOU can DO. As a life coach who works not only on the inside but the outside, too, I hear many of my 40 plussers say they are too busy....to care in a self-care way. Perhaps we should introduce the BoF tax after all. I now use the analogy from a wonderful lady, Catherine, who ran a mindfulness retreat for a group of us Psychologies Ambassadors in Largs, Scotland. In her beautiful Scottish tones she calmly talked about the in flight pre-take off demonstration, a reminder to put on our own oxygen mask on before attempting to help others. BREATHE
If you are struggling with time, ‘busyness’ or Ferris Wheel Syndrome - all I ask is for 30 minutes to talk together, that’s it! We can discuss what is stopping you....self-care - from problems to possibilities. Email here for a time that suits you.
Now let’s get down to some Body Talk!
It strikes me, and many of my girlfriends, that there’s a lot of fuss made about a body part you can’t actually see. What is all the fuss is about? Why are men so obsessed with butts? Is this because having a certain shaped butt is a sign of increased fertility or a sign that men have downloaded far too many ‘twerking’ clips?
As we grow older, do we really care? Or are you lunging, squatting and toning your derriere to get into a pair of butt-hugging jeans?
Apparently there are five ‘official’ different sized butts. Yes, five! Not only do we have body shapes, but also butt shapes.
Want to know what shape bottom you have? Nope, neither did I, but I thought it would be a bit of fun - so here goes:
1. Square shaped - If your hip bone and outer thigh are perfectly in line, then you'll fall into the square category - flat-bottomed girls.
2. ‘V’ shaped - If the line between your pelvis and hips angles inward, your butt takes on a ‘V’ shape from behind -this butt shape is common among women with broad shoulders and very narrow hips.
3. ‘A’ shaped - ‘Pear-shaped’ women tend to have A-shaped butts that widen below the hip bones - A-shaped butts tend to stem from fuller thighs.
4. The round shaped - This one you’ve seen on Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, and J Lo. If you want a rounder butt......!
5. The upside down heart shaped - This is round without defying gravity. It involves a curve to the outer hips but with more volume in the lower part of the hip.
More information on best underwear for butt shape can be found in the Cosmo article here
STOP PRESS -I have just read that those women with a slightly larger bottom may also be more intelligent! HAPPY DAYS
Next week we will be talking about ‘Hair’ so if you would like your voice to be heard, please email here and let me know your thoughts.
Stay colourful my 40 plussers!
