Breathing the ground into yourself

When you just need to take a pause in your day, try this

We don't always take the time to sit down and relax, to restore and replenish ourselves. Sometimes life can feel so busy that we find ourselves constantly on the go.

When times are tough and life feels relentless, I find it very powerful to take tiny pauses to breathe. Just 5 breaths can have an impact.

Breath in through your nose (if possible), and as you do so focus on your tummy. The aim is for your tummy to expand as you inhale, meaning you take a full breath. If you watch a small child this is how they naturally breathe, it's just we tighten up and forget as we get older.

Pause at the end of your in breathe, and then slowly breathe out, noticing the sensation of the air as it leaves your body. Pause again before you next breathe in, again focusing on filling your tummy.

It's best to stop whatever else you were doing and just breathe to get the full impact of this exercise.  After 5 breaths you can pick up where you left off, and notice the difference this tiny piece of you time it has.

Getting back into your body in the midst of the day can reconnect you to what you sense and how you feel. Doing this several times a day can really develop our connection with our physical form.  I wonder what that groundedness will make possible for you? Enjoy exploring it!
