The importance of Direction

We have a slightly longer gap between meetings in my Happiness Club this month and so I thought I'd blog a quick, mid-meet up update on why I think Direction is important to be happier in life.

I recently saw a comment on a social media site where someone said that 'Direction' and 'Resilience' in the 10 Keys to Happiness were misplaced. They didn't think you needed to be striving for something to be happy.

I disagree. I think you do need a focus, a direction you intend to go, and to keep putting one foot in front of the other to get there for as long as that direction ignites your soul.

But on your journey it's important to notice your breath, the sun, the flowers and the birds. These alone, for some of us, won't make us feel fully alive and happy. But a combination of mindfulness and direction, coupled with resilience to keep moving forwards in the direction you choose, surely will.

I am a Chartered Accountant for a Housing Association, who is a mum to 2 small children. I discovered Mindfulness in 2013 and this was a turning point for me to really be committed and present wherever I am. Life isn't as worrying as I used to think when I used to listen to all my 'what if' thoughts and I now feel braver and more confident. I set up a Happiness Club in 2015 in conjunction with Psychologies magazine and as with Mindfulness am already loving the difference it's making to my life and those around me.

I agree, it's knowing where you're going but also enjoying the journey. x
