Hey Happiness Explorer, what if I told you there's a secret to living a life with no regrets? That you could avoid ever having to cross-examine yourself again, that wallowing in regret for the hasty things you've said or done could be a thing of the past forever? In this week's blog, Justine Clifford Happiness Explorer Coach talks about the phenomenon of Karma and shares a life-changing event that helped her develop two key strategies for creating a life where you can look back in peace and enjoy your memories. Happy journeying friends and may your road always be blessed.

“Have no regrets” … does this sound familiar? Yet still, you find yourself in moments of solitude, pondering on actions or words that might have caused harm or been unpleasant to others, the very thought of which evokes feelings of guilt and shame, despite being in the past, and your suffering continues. You’re not alone. Karma is a Sanskrit word which literally translates to ‘action’. It applies to all levels of action, including thought, word, feeling and deed, and its effects; for every action, there is a reaction.

WHY CRASHING MY CAR WAS A GIFT At the tender age of 19, I was heartbroken by my first love, felt betrayed by him and my friend as a result of infidelity. In that moment, I chose to respond with anger and the brutal words “I hope she crashes her car” had left my lips before I could take them back. A deep feeling of shame lingered for months, years, witnessing this very dark and ugly person within me capable of saying such an awful thing. The reaction that took place shortly after (in fact 30 minutes later), taught me a very valuable lesson and I believe it was the first time in my life that I started to open the door to a deeper understanding of Karma. As I pulled out onto a side road, an oncoming car hit me head on and my car was written off. By some miracle, I and the others involved escaped unharmed and after the accident, I was left with a very big choice…

1. Do I buy another car and stay, OR 2. Do I leave this relationship, take the insurance cheque and buy a round-the-world ticket and go travelling? I chose the latter.

Travelling the world alone at 19 had never been a consideration until then. That trip changed my life. For every action is a reaction. The purpose of Karma is to teach, not to punish. At the time, we may well take action that leaves a bitter taste in our mouths, but what we must learn is that something far greater is happening and that each and every event is all part of the journey, your journey. We learn lessons throughout that journey and every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in kind. I learnt quite a harsh lesson here, but as I moved forward I realised that it was a necessary part of my journey, along with many other lessons. Have no regrets, just take the learnings with you as you move forward.

IN A WORLD WHERE YOU CAN BE ANYTHING, BE KIND Just be kind. At times this is tough, right? Especially when you feel that others have done you wrong. I came across two beautiful things which I wish to share. 1. This acronym: THINK Is what I am saying, texting or typing… TRUE HELPFUL IMPORTANT NECESSARY KIND

2. A mantra from yoga which focuses on the throat chakra, our centre of communication. ‘Let your words echo softly in the universe’, which really resonated with me. What if we acted and responded from our heart, from a space of love rather than a place of fear or anger?

GIVING FOR THE LOVE OF GIVING “What you sow is what you reap”; another familiar expression? So, if you do good you receive all great things in return? This is a topic of conversation that attracts a variety of opinions. Here’s mine on the subject… What matters is the intention behind your actions. Happiness doesn’t come through selfishness and thoughts of ‘what can I gain here’, but through selflessness. Pure love is a willingness to give without a single thought of receiving anything in return. Live in such a way that when you grow older you can look back and enjoy your life a second time. Give for the love of giving, from your beautiful heart.

My journey in yoga has allowed me to meet many people and I wish to share a recent encounter with a beautiful soul who shared his version of Karma. “When we are serving, we cannot suffer. Because it becomes less of ego and ‘me, me, me’ and shifts the focus to serving someone else. Our problems become less significant when we can come from this place of selfless service” ~ Dylan Ayaloo.

Appreciate where you are, understand that this is a journey, your journey, so LIVE YOUR BEAUTIFUL LIFE. Count your blessings and be thankful. When you count your blessings, you’ll realise that life is, indeed, beautiful. May your road always be blessed.

Our prime purpose in this life Is to help others. And if you cannot help them, At least don’t hurt them. ~ Dalai Lama XIV

Hey, I'm Lydia Kimmerling I am MAD, CRAZY, PASSIONATE about helping you to create a life you're super excited to wake up to. Being happy...ish, inspired...ish and fulfilled...ish is never quite enough, is it? When you feel like there is "more" out there for you, it's because there is. A life where you can't remember the last time you worried, stressed or doubted yourself and your friends ask you "What's your secret?" because you GLOW, SPARKLE and SHINE. That can be you and I will show you how. I got my first television job at 17, ran my own restaurant in Panama at 22, taught Hip Hop in Cornwall at 26, was cabin crew for Virgin Atlantic at 28, coached CEO's on confidence at 29, then at 30 took the leap as a certified life & business coach with The International Coaching Federation to launch my very own transformational company called The Happiness Explorer. I am a master of change, so I can tell you that there is NEVER really anything to fear, but has it always been easy? NO! I have blocks, down days and self-doubt too, life doesn't stop throwing you curve balls, it's how you catch the ball and throw it back that changes. Plus, you never know until you try, right? At 32, I now know what the key is to waking up every single day excited about the life you live. It is to know yourself inside and out and to love every part of who you are.The more you know yourself, the more of you there is to love and the more you love yourself, the more you want to give yourself a life you love. The question is…What do you really want?
