Why your wrinkles and laughter lines are you most beautiful features
“My life is an adventure and as I go on these adventures and expeditions, my body’s coming with me. Every laughter line, every wrinkle tells a story and I either decide ‘This is not for me’ and I start hating myself or you can think ‘Yeah that’s 50 years my body’s been kind to me!” Heather Gordon

Every laughter line, every wrinkle tells a story and I either decide ‘This is not for me’ and I start hating myself or you can think ‘Yeah that’s 50 years my body’s been kind to me!” Heather Gordon from the film ’10 things you need to know to love yourself today’
Oh and boy they really are! You know, I’ve had conversations with women who have confided in me that they feel so desperately sad that their face is getting lined, that their skin no longer has the elasticity that it used to, that when they look in the mirror – another wrinkle, another line, another crease literally faces them!
Ageing in our society is seen as something to avoid, to delay, to stress over, to hide, cover up, wish away. I’m here to tell you the exact opposite!
I sat on a train to London once and next to me was a stranger, I’d say late teens but it was hard to ‘age’ her. She was asleep and I have to say I was absolutely fascinated with her skin – I’d NEVER seen skin like it! It was porcelain! Not a single crease, not a teeny tiny line, not a blemish, all evenly toned….simply amazing.
I didn’t know her, I have no idea about her life or what she’s been through to date but honestly she looked like an angel! And on one hand I could absolutely see how I could look at my own face (in its 40 odd years) and wish for her youth – but I didn’t. My face tells a story, like Heather in our film, my face, my body, my soul, my eyes – they have been on an adventure with me and they continue to come with me.
That young girls adventures were only just really starting.
With these lines of mine (and yours) are stories, there is deep experience in this face, lessons learned, bravery, triumph, pride – all there and you see it in my eyes and yours when we smile.
That’s LIFE and it’s totally beautiful.
Never regret those lines, that experience, those memories - they make you rich, wise, powerful, knowing and absolutely I want to be all of those things.
Drink it in and accept those seasons.
The more seasons a woman has been through, the easier it is to view her life as a story – each day you’re making history, each moment you’re taking in brand new information that could whip you up into another season or adventure at a moment’s notice.
This is a truly incredible time to be alive, and to see our lives as adventures to be walked through – to know deep in our hearts that time passes, things change, nothing ever stands still for very long – it means we free ourselves up to accept this particular season.
Your life is an adventure, take part in it, revel in it, know that the value it brings gives solid foundations for your future chapters – have the ability to look backwards at how far you’ve come and forwards to chapters that aren’t even started yet.
Like blank pages in a diary, we have yet to live them and each one will reveal treasures, loves, passions, friendships and souls that become dear to us.
