When you are considering therapy, it is important to be clear what you are asking for, and finding out enough about your prospective therapist to make sure they are able and willing to deliver.

Different counsellors and psychotherapists use different approaches, according to the way they have been trained, the continuing professional development they do, their beliefs, values, capabilities, preferences and personality.

Be confident to ask up front how a therapist works, and how this fits with what you are seeking from therapy. Finding the right fit for you is not just about whether you like and feel comfortable about the person (although this REALLY matters), it is also about making sure you are receiving support that matches your goals.
