Doing something I used to enjoy...

Vanessa's challenge was to reflect back on something we used to do and revisit it.

So, Vanessa thank you for giving me something to reflect on. What do I no longer do that I used to enjoy? I dabbled with idea of buying some paints to create some artwork- I'm not very good at it but there is something good about being creative and you never know something might appear that I wouldn't mind sharing. I keep seeing birds on a wire and I may still visit this at a later date.

However, as is usual with these challenges fate predicts how they transpire.Years ago I did a course in Aromatherapy and I used to love creating potions for my friends for their ailments. I have a well thumbed book which is my bible for a natural way of curing minor ailments. I cured myself of a chronic ailment using this book and was so happy to get rid of it after many years of suffering with prescribed medicine only exasperating the symptoms.

I hadn't opened this book for a while and my box of essential oils had not been looked at for a while. An ex collegue got in contact asking if I could recreate a potion I had made for her  as she had been using it for her daughters growing pains and said it had worked very well. So of course, I unearthed my kit and ordered some base oil and created Emelia's Growing Pain Ointment. I then created one for my colleague who suffers from a skin disorder.. and reintroduced my oils to my household, oh how I've missed your divine perfume, how could I have forgotten about you for so long..?

I'm a single parent of ONE lovely lanky teenager.. I live in deepest rural Wales . My 'proper' job is in marketing and events but I am also a trained reflexologist, masseur and reiki giver (go figure!) I also look after my Mum who is in her late 80's, my dog Ted, my cat Black and my hens and dream is to have a small holding and offer people holidays in my teepee and maybe the odd therapy as you can see I am a mass of contradictions.... I like to walk, do yoga, eat salad and visit new places but I also like to drive fast, Feast ice lollies, vodka on Friday's with friends(, which leads to dancing in my kitchen) my coffee , and staying up late... I can be outgoing but also extremely shy so like the rest of you I am still trying to figure it out one day at a time...

I love all the 'old ways'. Things we learned through time but have lost in modern times. I've never dabbled with them myself but believe there are many truths in lessons learned through time and the past. Nice one, I enjoy the image of you walking around the Welsh valleys looking for herbs and things and going back to a cottage and creating potions to aid the local village - happy thoughts.

Love it, Fi! This is just what I was hoping - I know it worked for me. Sometimes we get so caught up in doing something new and different that we run out of space :-)
