A Simple Power Pose
Wake Up 4 of 25
Sarah-Kate gave us the challenge of ‘a simple power pose’. This basically entailed every time we walked into a room or come into contact with someone we smiled.
This challenge took be back to the beginning of ‘wake up’ when Chris said not all the experiments would work for everyone. This one didn’t really work for me because when I’m in work 9/10 times I’m in a happy mood, smiling, singing or telling a joke within seconds of entering. Even my dog Bobby is 100% happier than the average dog. To prove the point the picture above was taken just after I told him a joke and the joke wasn’t one of my best, ahem.
Also, when I’m walking down the street I naturally smile at people I come into contact with anyway. I’m natural, I don’t think about it and I don’t really feel the need to pretend to be happy or be a ‘smiley’ person for anyone, I’m natural. I would hope the laughter lines on my face (and I’ve got enough of them) show something about my character and the type of person I am. Of course you can't please everyone but that's because I don't fit into everybody's ideal. I'm easy about this.
Funny enough when I first read the challenge I was taken back many, many moons to an ex-girlfriend and when I met her parents for the first time and they said what a great smile I had. Little did they know that within months I would unintentionally break their daughter’s heart, something I’m still not sure why I did and have to put it down to just one of those things that happen in the rich and mysterious tapestry we weave in one’s life. It’s one of my regrets about the past that I can’t change and only hope that the girlfriend in question forgave me for something I still don’t know the answer to why I did it.
So, unfortunately this challenge didn’t work out for me. I’m sure it will for others but not for me. Never mind, one less laughter line on my face. I’ll keep on trying to keep it real and keep on smiling and keep on staying awake.
