Nothing's gonna change my world

Week 2 of 25 experiments- which poem speaks to you right now...

I really liked this thought provoking challenge. I tried to think of a poem, but I’m not a poem person and I never will be. We studied Keats, Elliot and Wordsworth at school, but none of them stayed with me, not really. So for me it has to be song lyrics every time. Songs come and go, some stay with you, they evoke a time in your life like a soundtrack of your life. They have the power to make you smile and cry. Some make more sense as you get older, this song I have chosen is such a song. This song is older than me but as I have grown the song has meant more to me.

As I thought and thought some more about this challenge the song which kept coming back to me was, ‘Across the Universe’ by The Beatles. I fear sometimes I will be consumed by anxiety. Is everyone ok? Will I have enough money? Will I get my work done on time? It goes on and on. This song remind me to breathe and not to become overwhelmed. The tumbling lyrics

‘Pools of sorrow waves of joy

Are drifting through my opened mind

Possessing and caressing me’

And ‘ thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box’, reminds me to allow thoughts to come and go but not to let external things affect me so much. I’ve read John Lennon was just getting into transcendental meditation when he wrote this and I wonder if this somehow manifested itself in the lyrics-allowing thoughts to come but then letting them go. Apart from death and illness of a loved one nothing is unsurmountable and I find the simple chorus of ‘Nothing’s gonna change my world’ so soothing and a good reminder that I am but a small speck in the universe and I should not let my thoughts become all consuming. I should have within me everything I need to deal with any negativity.

I'm a single parent of ONE lovely lanky teenager.. I live in deepest rural Wales . My 'proper' job is in marketing and events but I am also a trained reflexologist, masseur and reiki giver (go figure!) I also look after my Mum who is in her late 80's, my dog Ted, my cat Black and my hens and dream is to have a small holding and offer people holidays in my teepee and maybe the odd therapy as you can see I am a mass of contradictions.... I like to walk, do yoga, eat salad and visit new places but I also like to drive fast, Feast ice lollies, vodka on Friday's with friends(, which leads to dancing in my kitchen) my coffee , and staying up late... I can be outgoing but also extremely shy so like the rest of you I am still trying to figure it out one day at a time...

Great choice, great song and the lyrics make me feel like I'm just a speck in the cosmos too but in a nice way. Not surprisingly I'm a Beatles fan and in truth if I meet someone who doesn't like them I can't help think they are trying to be contrived. I love the song Two of Us on the Let It Be album - it gets me every time. I LOVE LYRICS - Yeah-yeah! Great choice!
