Week 38 : Cloud watching

Look up to the sky and see...

Just to take a moment to sit back and watch...not plan, not control, not analyse, but just watch the passing of the clouds. There is something about the shapes of the clouds - their layers and landscapes - that I find deeply soothing. The intense blue of the sky relaxes my eyes, uncreases frown lines and allows shoulders to drop.

In our selection of ways to wake up, this is so simple and so satisfying. It is always there and the inevitable changes in the sky are a reminder that things move on. If you can lie on the grass there is the added tactile sensations of the earth beneath your feet: another form of physical grounding and reassurance. In yoga you learn to trust the ground to take your weight, not to brace yourself in tension but to relax and really let go. As I lay there I felt that sense of release.

So all in all a lovely moment of stillness. By focusing on the feel of ground below and the view of sky above I managed to forget about the day to day concerns of the to do list, zone out and...well relax!

Mother, wife, daughter, teacher...

Firmly stuck in the 'sandwich generation' category, I am 46 years old and looking to shake things up a bit! I am a teacher, which I love - but it takes over your life! A mother of three - two daughters, 16 and 15, a son aged 11. Wife to Simon for 19 years. Carer for rather eccentric mum, aged 89.

Very true Jacqui, very true. We need time to watch the clouds go by and 'chill'. Nature is there for us to learn and yet it's easy to forget her lessons even though she teaches them every day. We're just consumed with everything else and need to get back to a simpler existence and stop chasing materialistic things. Great super-chilled post.

Jacqui, I feel such a connection with your posts; we definitely sing from the same hymn sheet! I even found myself segueing into a bit of yoga practice after my wake up... I love the feeling of being grounded and of touching the sky in the same moment.
