Great Wake Up Blog: Week #33

This week's assignment was something pretty intense, if very rewarding: writing a handwritten letter to someone, letting them know how you feel about them. Wow.

Chris' assignment for Week 33 asked us to write a letter to someone and to tell our person just how we really felt about them - which, given that it can be a soul-baring experience, didn't seem like the most British thing in the world.

However, I'm up for anything, and so I decided to write a letter to a friend of mine who I was, coincidentally, meeting for a cup of coffee on my lunch break this week. I took time out of my evening to compose the message, and it was surprisingly moving as I got to express my pride and pleasure at being able to call my friend someone I care deeply for. and to tell them this in a vastly more eloquent manner than usual.

Giving the letter to them was the hardest bit, given that the art of writing a physical letter for someone is reserved to weddings (generally). However, it went over well - similar to the experiment a few weeks ago, it was a success in connecting and achieving emotional transparency and honesty with someone I care about.

All in all, slight cultural embarrassment and discomfort aside, it was a fun experiment and even sweet at the finish. I probably won't be writing handwritten letters for everyone I love in my life, but it has definitely opened the door for me to do this kind of thing in the future, with a bit more ease...
