Questions to ask to find happiness in 2015

Stuff resolutions for 2015, how about getting in touch with what makes you feel alive right now! Our lives can become filled with an ongoing conveyer belt of things we need to do. We think that when we get to the end of the luggage belt of jobs, we can take time off and be happy. The problem is that the longer we spend solving problems and getting things done, when we finally get the free we don’t know what to do with it as we've forgotten what we searching for to make us happy! Here are three questions to keep you in touch with yourself in 2015.

1. What makes you like yourself the most?

I don’t mean what do you enjoy or what do you like, I mean what makes you like YOU! I enjoy cake, but it doesn’t make me like myself and I hate the gym, but the gym does make me like myself. Ask yourself what are you doing when you like yourself the most?

2. If you could do anything with tomorrow, how would you spend that day?

You have the money for it and you couldn’t possibly fail so what would it be? Could you put this into action in your life in 2015?

3. In whose company do you most feel yourself? Make a list of the people who make you love yourself when you are in their company.

Ever found yourself making more time for the people you don’t feel close to and the ones you do get less time? Well, it might be time to make a switch. Next year try and spend more time with the people who make you like yourself.

For some people, New Year is a time for reflection and thinking up ways to make this next year better than the last. For example, in my new book, ‘Cupcakes and Coffee’, the lead character, Sam finds herself taking a young, in fact much younger man(!) home on New Years Eve. Sometimes at New Year we do things purely to feel alive, New Year can be like a mid-life crisis we get to have once a year! We make promises to ourselves that we will change and become better. For me its about focusing on what makes you happy, and if that’s doing something a little out of character and a bit crazy like Sam - if it makes you feel alive, I say do it!

I COULDN'T AGREE MORE. I HAVE SPENT MOST OF MY LIFE WITH UNSUITABLE HUSBANDS FRIENDS AND PEOPLE WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND OR CARE ABOUT MY CREATIVITY. I AM AN ARTIST AND HAVE TAUGHT IN THE PAST. I LOVED TEACHING ADULTS BUT HAD NO TIME NOR ENERGY TO MAKE MY OWN WORK. TOO BUSY EARNING MONEY TO PAY FOR THINGS I DON'T ENJOY!

I, too have spent my life, pleasing those around me. I was under the assumption that it was my path in life. To serve others and to be the one who made sure they were always comfortable. I see now, that no one, in my circles, seems to think that ,i deserve ; even a little of the same. Don't get me wrong, i realize i have to care about me first...but old habits die hard.

Hi Lisa,
If you act like a tea pot all the cups don't know you have a lid! Of course you need your love being replenished and refilling. But when you do it for yourself, you meet other tea pots! That's what happened to me. I still love all the cups, but my tea parties are made up off all the pots with their lids off, laughing and replenishing each others tea. That way my tea never gets stewed and bitter! Just don't invite any white rabbits... it all turns a little 'Alice in wonderland' of metaphors :) Thanks for sharing I feel so many people will relate to what you have said! Bx

I'm stuck on what I like about me! I get the whole idea of spending time with the right people. I don't think I know myself anymore!

Hey Laura
A good tip is to think about what you are doing when you like yourself the most. I do enjoy eating cake... but cake doesn't make me like myself. I hate the gym, but the gym does make me like myself. You get the idea. I like myself when I am helping people, fully engaged in playing with my dog and upon the completion of a book I'm reading. What gives you that glow? If you still don't know, get an appointment with me www.beckywalsh.com I'll help you... and like myself whilst doing it ;) x
