Are you habitually addicted to ‘busyness’? So many of us define ourselves and our business by using this 21st century disease as a measuring stick. Defining our value by just how full our inbox gets … ‘I’m so busy! I can’t, I’m far too busy! I've got so much to do! Sorry, I can’t stop I’m so busy!’ Seriously, are you really happy being that busy?
As an ex head-hunter and now coach and mentor, I often come across people who are prone to self limiting assumptions and sadly, these often become self fulfilling. For some people these derive from a pessimistic mind set and for others, they are picked up along the way, through adverse childhood or career experiences for example. Once you have identified the tendency, the harder question is what to do about it?
What are your plans for the holidays? If you're anything like me, you're looking forward to time with family, and the chance to have a well-earned rest. But might you also be figuring that now would be a great time to catch up on your email backlog? Or to clear the admin you've de-prioritized ahead of doing essential year-end stuff (not to mention turning up at office parties?) If so, I have a bit of advice: Don't.
