Healing is about connection

Clients come to psychotherapy because they want something to be different to the way it is now.  It may be that a mental health symptom is causing pain, or that they are not moving forwards in a way that they want to, but there is always a reason to be there.

Oftentimes, clients already have everything they need to meet their outcome.  The trouble is, they are not connected to all their resources all at once.  You may find yourself sometimes feeling motivated, but in the specific context you need the motivation it just isn't available.  Or it may be that you are great at nurturing those you love, but that you are unkind a mean inside your own head, and do not give yourself the same love.  Great discipline in one context may dissolve into a lack of restraint and cycles of doing things you would rather not elsewhere.

So what can be done?  Psychotherapy is about connection.  It's about a healing relationship developing between you and your psychotherapist.  It's about connecting to your felt sense of what you want to have happen, really embodying it and making sure you are congruent with your goals.  It's about connecting to the different aspects of yourself, and bringing them into contact with each other, developing your ability to be with both feelings and thoughts simultaneously for example.  Its about resolving inner conflicts and leaving yourself free to use your energy where you need it.

Psychotherapy can be a voyage of discovery.  Inside we are all a bit more complex that we might like to think, and psychotherapy can be a way of bringing complexity into awareness and making stuff a whole lot more simple and easy to navigate.

If you find yourself repeatedly not meeting the goals you set yourself, or you suffer symptoms you just can't shift, then psychotherapy may be a good fit for you.
