Harder than I thought...

Challenge one of the 2017 Wake Up was to surprise someone we love with a little treat - sounds easy, right?

I knew when I read it exactly what I wanted to do for this challenge - send my sister a bunch of daffodils at work. She's been working extra hard lately and I knew it would lift her day.

The challenge is that my sister lives in America...

Now, you would think that with the wonders of the internet this would not be an issue. You'd be wrong. I spent hours looking through florists' websites, Amazon, Google, you name it. If I'd wanted a $75 bunch of mixed proteas, no problem. But nowhere could I find someone who would just do a bunch of daffodils. So I called in the heavy artillery.

Yep, you guessed it - team Mom saved the day. Luckily, my mom lives in the same town as my sister (and used to work as a florist!) and she was happy to buy daffodils and a vase, put the two together, and deliver the result (with a printout of my scanned note) to my sister's office. In fact, she thought it would be a laugh - and a welcome break from the builders currently knocking her house around...

Who knew an entire city could be out of daffodils? I clearly have some psychic link to a rising American demand for daffs, because there were none to be found! (Fi, I appreciate this is getting a bit silly for what was supposed to be a simple, potentially no cost, treat but you've got to laugh...)

Que another call with Mom/Florist Extraordinaire/White Knight - you see where I get my tenacity - and we finally decided that tulips would work. Lovely red and yellow ones - because there had to be some cheery yellow in there! Decision made, mission accomplished with all due stealth.

The upshot - my sister was delighted! My mom got a little Wake Up adventure of her own... And I got to feel a little closer to both of them.

What a great start to this year's challenges!

Sounds like a saga but well worth it in the end. I know how stressful it is having builders in because at this very moment we've got a fella in our flat ripping out the bath and putting in a shower and the "simple" job isn't as simple as it seems because of a joist in the way. What makes it worse is yours truly isn't feeling 100% today with something horrid on his chest. I'm sure your gesture of flowers and the effort you went to get them there will make your sister feel extra special. Challenge accomplished, well done you.

Omg ! I love the effort you went to. Daffs are a Welsh national emblem so even more apt and timely but my favourite flowers of all time are red tulips -you just have to smile when confronted with one. I bet your sister was totally blown away by your thoughtfulness x
